Val Fondillo - Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise

Vicino alle montagne, spianato sotto i passi il suolo risuona, ti dice: la Terra e' un tamburo Pensaci!
Noi, per seguirne il ritmo, dobbiamo fare attenzione ai nostri passi.

Joseph Bruchac (Indiano Navajo)

Grazing highlands host, especially during spring, vast blooms of primroses, daisies and myosotis (“forget-me-not”).

Primroses, wood anemones, columbines, violets, ginger lilies, orchids and irises (which belong to the rare and protected flora of the Park) are among the most common flowers found in the valley.

Medicinal species add to such a rich scenario: juniper, gentian, arnica and valerian, used still nowadays to make herbal teas and liqueurs from ancient recipes.

The forest consists mainly of beech and only in small part of fir and larch; the white willow and the poplar grow along the rivers, whereas, the hazel surrounds arable lands at low altitudes.

The underbrush is populated by wild strawberries, raspberries and of course many varieties of mushrooms, some of which are edible.
